SKYWARN spotter nets are
held Tuesdays on 2-meters weekly throughout the convective-season months
(March-September) and on the first and third Tuesdays during the winter months.
Net times are: 7:00PM on the
145.31 Attica and 147.15 Fulton repeaters.
7:30PM on the 146.67
Arkwright and 145.11 Bristol repeaters (linked) and the 147.255 Watertown
repeater.
All amateurs are welcome to
check in. Non-amateurs are also encouraged to tune in on their scanners to
listen to these nets for updated spotter information, training sessions, and
weather reviews.
A SKYWARN HF net is also
held weekly on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM at 7.234 MHz (+/- QRM). The net is
structured much like the weekly 2-meter informational nets, but is geared to a
larger audience of storm spotters from Ohio and Michigan east to the New England
Coast.
Editor's Notebook
The robins are back, the
geese are heading North, but OM winter still has his nasty grips on the Twin
Tiers. As I'm preparing this month's
newsletter, the NWS has a Winter Storm warning posted for Allegany and Potter
counties this Sunday morning. I have to
wonder what will be instore for us this summer, since we had such a mild
winter...will it be like the summer of 1999, with the numerous and severe
thunder storms that occured almost on a weekly basis that summer? Let's hope not, but keep in mind to keep
those batteries charged should this season be severe.
We had a nice turnout for
the display Friday evening at the Olean Center Mall...if only the weather had
cooperated. Al, KW2J; Sue, KW2J's XYL;
Mike, NG2O; Mike, KC2GMH; Sam, KG2HA; Karen, N2XPG; and myself, manned the
booth for four hours that evening. Don
may have some pictures on the website later this week, of our display.
We had several inquiries
(including a few teenagers!) about Amater Radio, and met a gentlmen from Olean
who has his ticket, but doesn't get much operating time in, and knows very few
local hams...we gave him info about the club and local repeaters, so hopefully
we'll hear from him soon!
Skywarn program coming up on
May 7th.
Annual dues are due in
May! Payable to Don Weiman, Treasurer
One more little reminder…if
you changed your email address please let Don, K2UOB know at - k2uob@arrl.net
Ok…that’s all I have for
this month as I'm still recooperating from a bad cold, and have shared with
N2XPG…any subjects you would like to write about, send it to me at - n2wds@arrl.net

ILS Swap Net
Ed. Note: I received this
memo from Gary, KB2YAA, Pres. of the PROS Club....
Hello everyone. It's coming
up to Tuesday again and we would appreciate
a listing from you. I have
started a WNY wide Swap net. This starts at 7
PM and will run until all are served. This is an independent net and not
associated with any club. We can accept listings across WNY,Northwest PA., and
Canada. We will list all entries on the
www.WB2JPQ.com web site. We will run this net every other week and would like to invite all Amateurs
throughout our great area. Thanks for your time and look forward to adding
your listing. 73, Gary KB2YAA.
